"Garry Jones was a unique and exceptionally talented
             musician. His style encompasses so many genres and backwaters
       of Music, that you will find yourself
recognising little influences long after the song has
         burrowed it's way into your memory.
    Garry's attention to detail and perfectionism , meant he would
often spend months recording a song, sometimes re-recording it from
scratch if it didn't feel right. Work on this album started some eight
        years ago. Had Garry still been alive, it would probably
have ended up much larger, with some tracks reworked.
                  Chris Britton and I have worked on the 10 tracks collected
     here and crafted them into an album we believe Garry would
have approved of.
                       So this is Gloryland.

Gloryland - Album Preview

We've finally got the technology sorted, sewn everything together and finished Garry's album - 'Gloryland' - it is now fully available to profile.

Our main objective for the album is to get Garry's music to as wide an audience as possible, and to that end we have it available to play for free on Last.FM and also on MySpace. So please do go and have a listen there, and also pass on the link to your friends and family. There is also a Facebook page and I'm sure more to come in many different social networking formats.

The next step is to get the record into iTunes. This will take roughly 6 weeks and so should be ready by the end of May'09.

We're still unsure about physical pressing, although we'd like to, it might not be practical. Let me know if you're really keen. Also let me know if you do buy on iTunes, as We'd be happy to send you a pressed copy, should that become a reality. Email

All proceeds will go firstly towards pressing and ultimately to Garry's family.

Happy Birthday Garry Jones

Today would be Garry's birthday.

Garry introduced me and many others to the music of Gram Parsons with this fantastic version of Hot Burrito No. 1.

If you listen carefully you can hear Garry lighting one of his Gauloise and opening a can of Stella at the beginning of the vocal track. This is a performance, although Garry would often rework and rework stuff, this is a take - not the very first, but a complete take from the first session where Garry also recorded '$1000 wedding' and 'New Soft Shoe'.

Huw Turner plays guitar on this session, in between learning to drive, and popping out to buy tomatoes for his then girlfriend. Whilst it's amazing that this session actually got done, it was also truly effortless, sometimes studios are best when they just record what happened in the moment and leave it at that. I think this was one of those times. Garry gave complete respect to his musicians and allowed them the space to create what they wanted. He was less good at editing it, but more of that another time.

Typically - I remember that Garry demanded I mix this before i went away for a months holiday, so that he could get it out there. It never has really seen the light of day, and that was September '97. It deserves an audience

This song always made me cry, today it makes me feel happy, lucky and grateful. Happy birthday Garry and thanks.

Scapegrace review of jonesfest

Amongst many of the artists playing on Saturday were the legendary Clayson and the Argonauts, a lawless bunch fronted by the multitalented Alan Clayson.
In the past the band's act has been described as a 'travelling asylum' and it's no exaggeration to say that Alan is a key candidate for election in 'rock's lunatic fringe." Certainly, the early stage act defied concise description and that Argonaut magic was still evident on Saturday as they ended with a frenetic cover of Floyd's 'Arnold Layne'.

Garry N. Jones was an extraordinary musician. A bass player, singer and songwriter, his work would stretch genres and bend expectations.

Garry died of throat cancer on 20th august 2007.

This website is to celebrate his life and his work, for those who knew him and for those who have just found him.

There will be a concert celebrating the life and songs of Garry Jones, featuring many of the musicians that Garry has collaboarated with.
